This is for the first Temporary Graduate visa holder in the post-study work stream who graduated with a degree from an Australian University and have lived in an eligible designated regional area for at least 2 -years. It also allows the applicant to live, work, and study in Australia temporarily.
What you need to know
Second Post-study Work Stream Requirements
- Must be under 50 years old.
- Must be in Australia during your application.
- Must be a holder of a Temporary Graduate Visa in the post-study work as the main applicant.
- Must hold a recent Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) registered degree from an education institution based in an eligible designated regional area that led to the first Temporary Graduate visa issuance grant in the post-study workstream.
- Must have resided in an eligible designated regional area for at least two years before applying for the second Temporary Graduate visa on your post-study employment stream.
- Must show proof of appropriate health insurance during your application.

Processing Time
Processing of visa is on a case-by-case basis. Circumstances vary on the action done in the Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485) application.
These are the some of the reasons why the processing time is taking longer than usual:
- The information in the application are not complete
- The supporting documents are not sufficient for the case officer to finalise the application and more document(s)/information are required
- The response time of the applicant for the requested information
- The information provided takes time on the verification process.
- The information from external agencies sometimes takes time. Example, those who are related to national security, health, and character requirements
- Number of applications load process by the processing centre, internal policy (processing standard time) and influx in application in a given time period

Being a Second Post-Study Work Stream holder
The student who is granted a visa is allowed to:
- Stay in Australia, usually about 1-2 years.
- Travel, study, and work during the stay in Australia, temporarily.
- Have your immediate family members stay with you, if applicable.

This allows international students who have recently graduated from Vocational Education and Training (VET) Sector with skills relevant to the skilled occupation list.
Graduate Work Stream Requirements
- Must be under 50 years old.
- Must meet Australian study requirement on student visa
- Nominate occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skill List (MLTSSL)
- IELTS overall score of at least 6 with a minimum score of 5 for each of the 4 parts or equivalent English test
How much it will cost
The visa (government) fee starts from AUD1,895.
Stay duration
Most of the time, the student can stay in Australia up to 18 months.
Processing time
On average, the processing time takes 72 days to 3 months depending on the circumstances of the Temporary Graduate visa application.

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)
Post-Study Work Stream
This allows international students who have recently graduated with a higher degree from an Australian University.
Graduate Work Stream Requirements
- Must be under 50 years old.
- Must hold an eligible visa and meet the English Proficiency requirements.
- Must have a recent degree in Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) list.
How much it will cost
The visa (government) fee starts from AUD1,895.
Stay duration
Most of the time, the student can stay in Australia between 2 and 4 years depending on her/his qualification.
Processing time
On average, the processing time takes 3 to 8 months depending on the circumstances of the Graduate visa application.
