Parents are now eligible for travel exemption going to Australia starting 1 November 2021
Last 22 October 2021, Minister for Home Affairs Karen Andrews announced that parents of adult Australian citizens and permanent residents are now eligible for travel exemption to Australia starting on 1 November 2021.
The definition of parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents includes:
- Biological parents
- Legal parents
- Adoptive parents
- Step-parents
- Parents-in-law
Before you can go to Australia, your visitor visa application must be lodge* before you can start applying for the travel exemption request to Australia.
Also, in the request, you will need to prove your relationship with your adult Australian citizen or Permanent resident child on the travel exemption request with evidence that:
- your adult child is an Australian citizen or permanent resident such as:
- Australian passport/ Local passport
- Australian citizenship certificate / Proof of permanent residence in Australia (permanent resident grant notice/vevo)
- Birth certificate
- your parental relationship with the Australian citizen or permanent resident
- birth certificate
- adoption certificate
- marriage certificate
- family status certificate or family book if officially issued and maintained.
“With today’s change, parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents can reunite in Australia; they can once more hold their grandchildren, and gather in person to share life’s significant milestones.” Minister Andrews mentioned.
“The change is possible because many millions of Australians have rolled up their sleeves and been vaccinated. In line with Australia’s National Plan, I look forward to further easing travel restrictions over coming weeks and months as Australia’s vaccination rate continues to climb.”
