Western Australia's Safe Transition Plan

The expected date will be in late January or early February as Western Australia reaches 90% vaccination rate for people aged 12 and over

Prime of Western Australia, Mark McGowan, announced last 05 November 2021 the Western Australia’s Safe Transition plan for safe border controls with other states and international arrivals.

The plan will take effect when Western Australia (WA) reaches a 90% double dose vaccination rate for people aged 12 and over. This forecast is to take place in late January or early February.

The date will be announced and locked in after the WA have reached an 80% double dose vaccination rate.

As of 05 November, WA is at 64.4% of Western Australians aged 12 and over are fully vaccinated.

Baseline public health and social measures

Based on the latest health advice, the following baseline public health and social measures will be implemented at the point of transition in late January or early February:

  • Face masks will be required but only at high-risk indoor settings, including on public transport, in hospitals, and aged care facilities
  • Proof of vaccination will be required to attend nightclubs, the casino and large events with crowds of more than 1,000 people
  • Contact registers and use of SafeWA will still be required at all public venues, as will revise COVID Event and Safety Plans
  • Entry will be restricted to remote Aboriginal communities, where necessary.

These are interim safeguards to complement the WA vaccination rollout. This is temporarily and will put WA in the best position in case of an outbreak.

Interstate Arrivals

WA controlled border will be eased with some conditions:

  • Double dose vaccinated arrivals only (those eligible for vaccine)
  • Complete a G2G Pass
  • Return a negative COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test 72 hours before departure
  • Undertake a test upon entering WA (to be phased out, pending a review)

International Arrivals

International arrivals will resume with some conditions:

  • International arrivals will not be subject to quarantine if they are double dosed vaccinated. However, those who are not double dose vaccinated will be required to complete 14 days quarantine in a designated facility
  • Complete a G2G Pass
  • Return a negative COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test 72 hours before departure
  • Undertake a test upon entering WA (to be phased out, pending a review)

The border controls and G2G Pass requirements will be reviewed regularly and phased out when appropriate based on the health advice at the time.
