New South Wales will adapt home isolation once Australia’s International borders open
The third phase on the Four-Phase Plan of the National Cabinet to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic situation will start when Australia reaches 80% of complete vaccination, which is now on track for mid-November that includes the following:
- Maximising vaccination coverage
- No caps on returning vaccinated Australians
- Allow increased capped entry of student, economic and humanitarian visa holders
- Lift all restrictions on outbound travel for vaccinated Australians
- Extend travel bubble for unrestricted travel to new candidate countries (Singapore, Pacific)
- Gradual reopening of inward and outward international travel with safe countries and proportionate quarantine and reduced requirements for fully vaccinated inbound travellers
- Minimum ongoing baselines restrictions, adjusted to minimise cases without lockdowns
- Continue vaccine booster program
As Australia’s international borders may open up and overseas travel resumes this mid-December 2021, hotel quarantine will be transitioning to home isolation.
The quarantine period could be reduced to 5-7 days for fully vaccinated travellers from other countries and considered a “low-risk” category than the unrestricted travel bubble destinations with 14 days of mandatory hotel quarantine for all arrivals.
This September 2021, the federals, state leaders and their health departments will examine the results of South Australia’s home quarantine trail. The trial ended over the weekend after 50 residents returning to Adelaide from overseas were quarantined at home for 14 days and were monitored by random calls from health officials and a smartphone app.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said last 07 September, “home quarantine is where we go next, and the length of that quarantine also was what we’re looking at.”
He will also drive the states and territories to detail “timetables about their introduction of home quarantine”.
Australia will also begin issuing internationally recognised digital vaccination certificates to accelerate the return of overseas travel, with the Qantas planning to resume international flights from mid-December 2021.
